‘CA membrane’ is a sculpture that explores the relationship between material and light. The title is indicative of the many processes used to create this piece. Starting from a digital model generated by a cellular automata algorithm, each layer was machined and then assembled by hand. When light is cast on the form, the viewer perceives high contrast shadow and a captivating reflection that hints at the micro and macro forms of biology.

The piece is best viewed in low light conditions.
